My second grade students are excited to learn new things and are eager to put their newly learned skills to good use. They love engaging in technology based learning but are limited with the lack of school resources. My class is an Integrated Co-Teaching class which means that 40% of my students are classified as special education students. Technology offers an alternate learning opportunity for my students that learn a little differently or require extra support. The majority of my students come from low-income homes and do not have access to internet, computers, and other technology outside of school hours. The chance to offer them this experience in school would make a world of difference.
My students want to not only step into the world of technology, but leap into it.
They meet every challenge thrown at them with an inquisitive nature I have come to truly admire. I want to expand their horizons and offer them the advances of the 21st century within their classroom.
My Project
Last school year, my students were fortunate enough to receive several Chromebooks for our room through the generous donations from DonorsChoose.org. However, in a class of 28 students, we require more laptops to ensure that each student has a sufficient amount of time to use the technology. I am requesting Acer Chromebooks and headphones to make this wish a reality.
In the digital age we're living in, technology is a vital part of everyday life and yet it is extremely limited in our classroom.
The addition of these five laptops would make a world of difference to my students. We plan to incorporate them into our station learning groups where the students would be able to access online differentiated instruction to meet their individual needs. Additionally, we would utilize these laptops to assess our students in a more comprehensive and informative way. The data gathered from these assessments would allow us to structure our lessons and drive our instruction to meet the needs of our class.
