Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students learn best when they ask their own questions, set their own goals and can connect their learning to the real world. Inquiry based learning develops the imagination, critical thinking skills, creativity, cognitive skills, collaboration and allows children to appreciate other points-of-view.

I teach a group of 3rd grade, gifted students in an inner-city school in a large metropolitan city.

A large percentage of students at my school come from low-income households and thus all students have access to the free lunch program. Many students do not have access to technology that will help them succeed in today's world. My students are enthusiastic learners with a great deal of potential. My job is to inspire them by integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics and promote critical thinking skills. My role is to promote inquiry based learning, to incorporate their varied learning styles into team-building learning experiences that they can connect to the world around them.

My Project

BrainPOP is an online resource for teachers and students. It makes learning fun and hands-on. BrainPOP features engaging animated videos that teach all subjects from mathematics to art and everything in between. Every movie provides quizzes to review learning and provide immediate feedback to students. By being able to interact with the video resources features, my students will be exposed to countless relevant topics including science concepts, historical and current events, historical figures and symbols, curricular subjects and the arts. The subscription to BrainPOP will be accessible by individual students on our classroom laptops and by the entire class via our projector.

This project will help me integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math by allowing students to not only see the connections among the disciplines, but will also be an invaluable tool to help them learn through Project Based Learning.

The one year subscription to BrainPOP will help me introduce new topics and will reinforce the learning we have done. For many of my students, it will allow them to acquire technological skills in a meaningful way that are extremely important in today's world.

This project will help me feed the insatiable appetite for learning that my students have.
