Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever wanted to learn about other cultures? Explore their similarities and differences? I want to share the world with my students. I want to teach them how location influence how people live, eat, and celebrate. I want them to have the world at their fingertips.

I have fourteen of the most precious, lovable, and unique students.

They have a variety of special needs, such as autism and cerebral palsy. This does not get in the way of their spirit, shining personalities or their desire to learn. Our school is a high poverty Title One school. The students all receive free breakfast and lunch. This means the majority of the families come from poverty.

My Project

They say a picture is worth a thousand words if so, then a computer must be worth a hundred million. I am requesting a classroom computer, books, posters and art supplies. I want to use these tools to motivate my students to learn about the world around them. The It's a Multicultural World! Hardcover Library and Children of the World Posters will be used to enhance circle and story time. The People Shapes and African masks will combine art and culture and the student will create replicas of themselves and friends around the world. A HP Pavilion All In One Computer is a much needed tool to access multiculturalism in the class. My students will be able to use the computer to travel to Spain, Greece, China, Africa and back all in one morning at the touch of a finger. They will use the computer to compare cultures and traditions. They will also use it to appreciate similarities and differences. In addition, my students will use the computer to increase their language and cognitive skills.

Opportunities for learning diversity in the classroom are strengthened when the classroom has tools to foster these connections.

I want to weave multiculturalism into activities throughout the school year that will help my students embrace their heritages and the heritages of other. Your help is needed to provide activities, and experiences that allow and encourage my student to become aware of the differences and similarities of the members of the community in which they live in and beyond.
