Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have an outstanding school in a large urban area. The teachers here work tirelessly to bring engaging, fun activities to enhance our curriculum. Because of the numerous budget cuts, we have had to seek funding for the "extras" that the kids absolutely love.
Our students rock!
Even though we have over 1,000 elementary students, our school has a "family" feeling to it. The staff is great and works very hard to encourage the students to become successful members of society. Many of the students come from homes where many of their basic needs aren't met. We strive to give them the love and confidence they need to survive. This is a difficult world, but we know that with enough help, love, and guidance; they will have a bright future.
My Project
The students will be exposed to the fascinating world around them with current, high-interest reading level articles. They will be able to learn about many things that they would never know about without the Scholastic magazine. After reading the articles, the students will learn how our worldly neighbors are alike and different from us.
The goal is to have students that have an appreciation and understanding of different cultures so that they will become tomorrow's problem solvers!
It is important for the students to learn that people around the world do things perhaps differently than we do. They need to become tolerant of others so that as they become adults, they will learn that the differences between people are what makes the world interesting.
