In life, we often take the little things for granted. Things like hanging out with friends, discussing the newest book, over a cup of tea or hot chocolate seems like they are simple. But, to my students in our high poverty area, this is a luxury dream that many will not experience. Thus, The Word Cafe was born.
The Word Cafe will be an oasis of of social engagement and literary expression in our sea of learning.
As a way to incentive reading in our classroom, student will be able to earn coupons for free drinks upon completion of a reading book. Within our library cafe, students will be able to enjoy their favorite warm and cold beverages while curled up reading their favorite books. Thus, allowing my students opportunity to enhance their literacy skills and develop their social/emotional well being.
