My students need lacing cards, magnetic numbers and letters, and sight word puzzles, so I can create new and engaging work tasks in order to increase their independence.
How do you feel when you have completed a project or task independently? Pride? Joy? Working independently is something you and I may take for granted. My students with special needs tend to be prompt dependent. I want them to experience the satisfaction of completing tasks independently.
I am fortunate to have 10 SPECTACULAR students this year!
My children have Autism and Intellectual Disabilities and are serviced in a self-contained functional classroom at a high poverty school located in the beautiful state of Virginia. Each one of my students is capable of learning and each one of my students deserves the materials to make that happen.
My Project
Due to the nature of my student's disabilities, they are heavily prompt dependent. My goal this year is to have each of my students working independently for 15 minutes with minimal redirection. However, they are getting tired of the same old tasks, therefore their time on task may be compromised. I am requesting new materials, such as sight word puzzles, lacing cards and magnetic letters, that can be added to my students' independent work stations. Structured Work Task Systems is an Evidenced Based Practice that increases student independence. These materials will allow me to create several new engaging work tasks aimed at increasing my student's independence.
With funding in our school district severely limited, it is my responsibility to create curriculum and materials for my students.
My students are not issued text books and workbooks. I make these for them. So, I have implemented Evidenced Based Practices such as Structured Work Task Systems in my classroom to achieve the best results from my students. Please consider helping my students by donating to this project. I promise you won't be disappointed.
