Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the first time you looked into a microscope? Reading the textbook and taking notes never worked as well as looking at life through a microscope.
I work at a bilingual school with culturally, socially, and linguistically diverse students.
My students love science and look forward to labs and inquiry based projects. They have often expressed that science is their favorite class because they can make real world connections and explore science through hands on activities.
My Project
We are well into our Diversity of Life Unit, and have begun to explore life at a microscopic level. Unfortunately, my students only have one working microscope, which has limited their investigation considerably. Microscopes would open the door to a world of projects, labs, and experiences that they could never learn through a textbook.
My students are in middle school, which is a critical point in their lives.
They must acquire the necessary tools to ensure their success in High School and beyond. It is important that they are exposed to as many meaningful learning opportunities as possible. These microscopes would provide students with the tools and experiences that might lead them to a career in the field of science.
