This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a high poverty area. They are eager to learn about anything new and exciting, especially related to science. Unfortunately, most of them do not have the means to do this at home. This is why it is important for us to teach it in the most interesting way possible. Learning about force and motion is a standard the children love. Learning to make and fly airplanes will teach them about how wind and positions help planes fly. Making them together in pairs will show them the benefit of working together and working hard at a task. They have such potential to be whatever they want to be and this unit will help prepare them with some skills to help them in the future.

This kit will be very enjoyable for the students as well as teach them how a plane stays in the air. Please be the wind holding up our planes!

My Project

Imagine all the first graders outside excitedly flying airplanes they created! Students will be learning about how a plane works. We will begin by reading about how planes are used and how they fly, then we will make them. Students will then write predictions on various experiments we will do. These experiments are on how far their airplane will fly going with the wind and against it. Students will then write in their journals what happened in their experiment. They will then compare their journal notes with other students and compare how different designs tended to go faster or slower.
