My Project
Social-emotional learning is a key component of our students' current educational experience. I am a school counselor and help coordinate a school-wide behavior incentive program that reinforces positive behavioral expectations and in turn, rewards students for those choices. All students are taught our school's positive behavior expectations, which can be summarized as "The Wildcat Way"- Being Respectful, Being Safe, and Being Your Personal Best. All staff members are provided with Wildcards and can "catch" students making positive behavior choices with the Wildcards in all areas of the school. Students can save Wildcards to cash-in at the Wildcat Store approximately once a month. Students can collaborate to earn shared incentives, such as an extra recess or lunch with the principal. Or, they can work to earn items in the store such as those requested through this project. COVID-19 stripped children of many opportunities for social interaction and the social-emotional learning that takes place in a school setting. Our school-wide positive behavior incentive program helps all students learn our behavioral expectations while reinforcing positive behavior choices that benefit all students' learning and self-esteem.
