My Students
The obstacles my students face daily is mind boggling. From major learning gaps to significant language barriers, they amaze me with their willingness to continue. As their teacher, it is my responsibility to help them overcome these challenges in any way possible.
What we learn today becomes part of who we are tomorrow.
Creating life-long learners is critical to the future.
With your generous donation, you will help my students improve their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.
My Project
"There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book." - F. Serafini
I want my students to fall in love with reading.
At the beginning of each year, I start the by asking my students if they enjoy reading. Most times their answer is usually, "No." I believe this is because they have not found the right books.
Over the past few years, I begin my last semester with an amazing murder mystery called The Westing Game. The book is very complex and for most, it is way above their reading level, but that's what makes it so amazing! The students work HARD to get through the book and they love it. There have been times when students have actually fallen out of their chair begging me to allow them to read on even once the allotted class time has completed. This is a great example of a challenge and my students rise to meet the challenge every year. However, because of the books popularity, it is very difficult to borrow enough copies for the class. I am asking that you help us to obtain twenty-one copies to read this year and every year with my group of fifth graders.
