Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds and are a mixture of Hispanic and African American students. They are also students who have special needs. Parents do their best to provide the bare essentials that their kids need to start school but many times that is all that they can give them. Many of the families have at least 4 kids in the school. It is a lot to ask a family to purchase materials when some of them cannot pay their utility bills. Although the parents and the school community do their best to provide for the children, with budget cuts it is getting harder to provide them with tools for learning.
My Project
As the winter approaches many of my students will not have the proper attire to wear to school to prevent health issues. They also walk far distances to arrive at school. Their parents provide what they can for their children but many of them will not have hats or gloves to keep them warm for the winter. Parents of my students struggle economically to provide for some of their children's basic needs. They do what they can for their younger children and as a result my middle school students sometimes have to go without. With your support my students can stay healthy throughout the winter.
