Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students in my visual arts classroom have autism and cognitive impairments. Many of them are non-verbal. They visit me each day to engage with materials and to have tactile and sensory experiences.
Even though they may not have the words to express their feelings, I see the joy and enthusiasm they reveal as they build, paint, collage, and discover their own artistic potential.
My school is a high school in the NYC Dept. of Education's Special Education district 75. I believe I have the best job in the world. Working with my students is a truly fulfilling job, and I'm so glad I get to make art with them each day.
My Project
The digital cameras requested will enable my high school students to learn the art of digital photography as it is practiced in our urban NYC setting. From portrait photography, street photography, architectural photography, and cityscape photography, I hope to encourage my students to see their city in many different ways.
With these cameras my students will not only become more technologically aware of how art can be made, they will understand the variety of approaches used to capture the perfect shot!
Students will have the opportunity to explore all areas of photography and understand its importance as a major art medium.
