Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a close group that gets along well. They have families that try very hard to do their best with the situation given them. Many of my students are emotionally disadvantaged and do not know how to cope with their feelings. They need someone to believe in them and encourage them to do their best in whatever they decide to accomplish in their home, community, or school life. Simply put, they need a cheerleader to say, "You can do it!"
My Project
I think that having small groups focused on a students reading level comfort will help increase their confidence in reading and the joy of reading.
Many times in class we use reading programs that do not take in to consideration a students readiness to read and at what level.
If I am given the books at their level to begin with, I know I can move them to become confident strong readers who will enjoy reading instead of dreading to read.
I have seen examples of other teachers using guided reading leveled books to boost their students reading skills and I would like the opportunity to give that same kind of reading help to my students. These books will help build my library of the needed books. Yay for guided reading leveled books!
