I need the book "Distracted: Why Students Can't Focus and What You Can Do About It" by James Lang for our teachers during a Summer Study Group, and in the Fall as a presented Workshop.
Our school has an enrollment of 1500+ students of which 34% are economically disadvantaged. We have a balance of 52% males and 48% females, with our minority population at 52%. We have 75% of our students on free or reduced lunch.
Our school is in a suburban area, built-in 1970 with a strong school spirit and ties to the community.
Our school has an unusual percentage of teachers who graduated from here and returned later to teach. I jokingly warn the new ninth graders about drinking the water! Our school community is a close-knit group that looks out for each other. Thank you for considering my project for funding to help us.

These resources will be used over and over as a Professional Development opportunity in our school and remain in our Professional Library for teachers. After the first study group, we will present a Workshop on the textbook to other teachers in our school and in the district.
"The cultivation and direction of attention are fundamental tasks of every teacher" (Lang) and every day in our classrooms we are pointing students in the direction to notice THIS as being important and remarkable, and not this.
Having these resources available in our library and as a teaching tool for teachers will be so very helpful during this especially challenging digital age. The age where students have so many distractions pulling for their attention, help us by donating to this project, to help the teachers understand and learn some new strategies in regards to the attention we seek in the classroom.
