My Students

Our students are ready for science. Really ready.

Until this year, science inquiry at our school has been conducted, mainly, within the regular education classroom.

This is an excellent thing, as many of our students have their own science interests at home.

Right now, a new science laboratory is under construction at our school, and while cleaning, painting, and purchase orders for furniture are under way, the walls and supplies closet need some much-needed refreshing, too.

This is a story of exploration for all of our future scientists...

My Project

The number one maxim for teaching is especially true for science: students understand our world by touching, exploring and doing!

In our current science classrooms, my favorite student mantra is "Lend me your eyes and your ears." Why?

Because science inquiry is experienced through focused eyes, listening (not just hearing) ears, and tentative touch. I know my students are actively engaged when they say to each other, "Whoa! What is that?".

All of the materials for this project are chosen for their "Whoa!" potential. We have science posters to spark inquiry questions (and brighten our boxy, beige room). There are Kindle Fire tablets to engage the fingers and minds for picture-taking and science applications. Best of all, we have Zoomy macro cameras and spectronomy vacuum tubes to lift inquiry into the stratosphere.
