Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hard working, eager and resilient. Most come from low-income households and have not had much experience with the world outside their neighborhoods.
Many of my students don't have the ability to learn online.
Many depended on worksheet packets and whatever resources they have at home. Despite the hardships they face with distance learning, the kids and their families did all the could to make do with what they had. Since March 13th, our school has been closed and we have learned how to navigate the virtual world through distance learning. We finished our school year strong with the limited resources we had. Less than half of my students were able to login each day and/or had working internet to access distance learning assignments. Though it was challenging and heartbreaking not being able to see ALL of my students each day, we worked together and made the most of it! I transformed my dining table and area into a mini classroom and we continued learning and being successful with what we had.
My Project
These materials will allow me to setup a virtual classroom setting at my house so that I can sucessfully teach my first graders from home. I hope that having a more official office and desk setup, I will feel more confident and comfortable teaching my students. It will give me much more space than my current situation, which is, teaching from the dinner table. These new additions will be the start of my new virtual classroom where I can continue making magic happen and enlighten my amazing and eager first graders!
