This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My homeroom students rush to sharpen their pencil before the first bell rings. The sharpener that we have takes 5 minutes to sharpen one pencil. So, we jokingly call students who have to move to their first class without a sharpened pencil, the unleaded.
My fifth grade students come to school prepared to learn and teachers here over-plan to squeeze as much learning into one day as is possible.
We clip along at a fast pace. Students attend departmental classes and the schedule is tight - without a minute to spare. During my morning homeroom, students have 10 minutes to eat breakfast, organize materials, say the pledge of the flag and sing the National Anthem Then they whisk out the door to attend their first class. That's why it would be great to help them be better prepared for class with a sharp pencil.
My Project
The unleaded students can benefit from this new electric pencils sharpener by feeling prepared and set for the day. I requested other materials, as well. I added white board markers so I can have ready important announcements written on white boards. Class decor such as holiday bulletin board borders and two chalkboard toppers to add to the climate of the classroom.
Thank you for your consideration.
I want you to know that small items such as markers and a pencil sharpener can make a big difference for kids. The students at my school are challenged to keep to a schedule and this will help them improve their time management.
