The Universe is All Around Us

My students need a telescope and batteries to view the amazing universe before them.

My Students

My 3rd grade students are "little buddies" to a high school group of science students. I would like to host an astronomy night for the children to come with their families and view the night sky with area astronomers and university professors who share the joy of star gazing.

My 3rd grade students are a delightful group of inquisitive scientists.

They are learning to be respectful of each other and their surroundings. They are learning to enjoy and appreciate the wonder and beauty of the world around them. Our school has significant poverty, however I am teaching the children to be grateful for what they have and look for ways to serve others. I am excited about the potential for these children to share something with their families that costs nothing: viewing the amazing night sky.

My Project

I am excited about the opportunity to involve area astronomers and university students with my 3rd graders and their high school big buddies. I plan on having an Astronomy Night with high powered telescopes and generators. The telescope I'm ordering is of course of far lesser magnitude, however my students will be thrilled with what they see through it! My dual language students will write their own stories of how the constellations got their names and we'll publish the book in English and in Spanish.

The power of involving outside funding I believe is elegantly simple: children need to know that there are many people in the world who want the best for them, who care about them, who don't even know them but want to make a positive difference in their lives.

I teach my students that they are never too young to make a difference in the world. When they are older I hope they will help others in the same selfless, meaningful way as you. Thank you for caring!
