This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are hoping to introduce ultimate frisbee to our students this year as a new PE unit. It’s a sport that is gaining popularity in our region — it’s one of the fastest growing sports in the nation — and our students are excited to learn.

A variety of disc sizes and materials will allow us to teach the sport safely.

Students with different abilities and experience need appropriate equipment options to grow their skills.

Our goals for the unit are first to learn how to throw, catch, and understand the rules. Then we will help our students to understand the physics of how the disc flies. Eventually we hope our students will grow into the athletes that will join the high school teams that are starting to form in our community. The skills and strategies of ultimate frisbee also translate to sports like soccer, which a majority of our students play in their free time or outside of school.
