My Project

I love how my students bring so much joy, energy, and determination into the classroom daily. Many of them are working hard to build their confidence as readers, and it's inspiring to watch their eyes light up when they find a book they truly connect with.

One of my students this year came into class unsure about reading.

He often sat quietly during independent reading time, flipping pages, but was not engaged. One day, I introduced him to the Stick Dog series. The humor and illustrations caught his attention immediately. Within days, he was asking if we had the next book in the series. Now, he proudly calls himself a reader and even recommends books to his classmates. That spark—watching a reluctant reader transform into an excited one—is what makes this work so rewarding.

That’s why I’m requesting engaging book series like Big Nate, Wings of Fire, and Stick Dog—books that pull readers in with humor, adventure, and relatable characters. These titles will help more students discover that reading isn’t just something they have to do—it’s something they get to do.

To make our literacy center even more inviting, I’m asking for lap desks so students can move freely and find their favorite reading spot. The rug will create a cozy area where students feel calm and comfortable as they read or share stories. Charging cables will keep our iPads ready for use during digital reading activities and literacy games. And the hand vac will allow students to take ownership of the space by helping keep it clean.

Each of these resources will help create a literacy center that’s not just a place to read—it’s a place to feel safe, curious, independent, and proud. Thank you for considering helping my students build a lifelong love of reading.
