Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have almost 500 students enrolled at our campus. The majority of our students are English language learners and qualify for free lunch programs.
They come eager to learn and excited to take on any challenge.
We offer 4 special classes that they go to in a rotation through the week. These are art, music, gym and mine is the technology class. I strive to turn my classroom to an innovative STEAM class with coding being a foundational skill that all my students
My Project
A Makerspace is an area of the classroom where students come to explore, build, create, tinker, invent and purposefully play. In a Makerspace, students have the opportunities to discover, problem solve, construct and test their projects.
Students are learning without turning to the teacher for directions or receiving steps from the teacher at the center.
The students are the ones directing the action and learning.
My studetns work on projects throughout the school year. We particiopate in the Cardboard Challenge where they take scrap cardboard and turn it into an arcade game. They have science fair projects and Gifted and Talented projects they showcase at school and the district. We also have students participate in the Inventor’s Showcase where they create a unique invention and display their item.
As their computer lab teacher they do alot of the research here with me and we work on the display board in here as well.
