Help me give my students a Cricut Maker for the means to create a school-wide project that will help students, staff, and parents build and strengthen relationships.
Concerns about money, warm clothing, or their next meal: these are things children shouldn't have to worry about, yet my students face these issues daily and still come to school excited to learn and create! Our school is a high-poverty, Title I School, with an Economic Need Index of 82.5%.
Artistic expression is a universal language.
Half of my students are new to this country and are working hard to learn a new language. In my art classes, I try to create opportunities for my students to be successful during that process!
I am consistently amazed by their innovative ideas. Given the right resources, there is no telling what these students can accomplish.
My Project
The Tree of Positivity is a school-wide initiative to encourage and reinforce the values our students and staff have learned through RULER lessons. These lessons have already helped to create a more equitable and compassionate atmosphere in our school.
The purpose of this project is to highlight students and staff in our school who demonstrate good character, self-awareness, and other traits found in emotionally intelligent people.
My students will work together to design and create a life-size model of a tree (The Tree of Positivity). The tree will be displayed at the front entrance of our school building.
Each time a student or staff member demonstrates good character (i.e. an act of kindness) they will earn a leaf. Their name will be printed on this leaf and then it will be placed on the tree for all to see.
My students and I will need to create thousands of leaves for this project. The Cricut Maker, Cricut tools, and the accessories I am requesting will ensure the success of this project.
