This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 5th grade classroom is filled with a diverse group of students coming from all over Los Angeles. Attending a magnet school means that students are bused from a variety of locations within the greater Los Angeles area. Most students will spend a round trip total of two hours on the bus every day. Our school is a Title 1 school, meaning that most students receive free or reduced lunch.

These fifth grade students are hard-working, caring, and very curious individuals.

It is my aim to provide my students with the resources to allow their curiosity to drive a growing interest in learning. When given the opportunity to explore and engage, these students come alive with excitement and are eager to learn and do their very best.

My Project

It is important for students to learn about current events in order to help them become informed citizens and community members. The students are informally exposed to news through the internet and television. My aim is to bring in TIME for Kids in order to allow them to explore and analyze the news content themselves, in order to form their own informed opinions.

This subscription will help my students explore and increase their knowledge of the world around them.

TIME for Kids will help the students carefully examine nonfiction literature that directly relates to their lives, as citizens of a global community
