A typical day in my classroom consists of explorative learning where students are encouraged to ask and search for answers to burning questions that textbooks do not answer. I am the facilitator who encourages them to dig deeper and explore the sea of information that exists in the virtual world.
The majority of the students I teach have not been provided the opportunities outside of school to discover their world beyond where they live.
While we are a tight knit community with a strong partnership between teachers, students, and parents, finances are not always available to expose children to the technological world that encompasses their present and future.
My Project
Our school has a set of iPads to be shared between approximately 750 students. While I am grateful for the opportunity to use these on occasion, my students are limited to one classroom computer to use on a daily basis for publishing work, answering their questions that textbooks do not address, and strengthening and deepening their knowledge of content related material.
With six classroom iPads, my students will be able to access information online within their learning groups on a daily basis. Also, they will have the opportunity to plan, publish, and present project based presentations using apps that will prepare them for a future in an extremely technological world making them both confident and competent members of society.
Donations towards my project will improve my classroom in that all of the students I currently teach as well as future students will develop a greater sense of how technology enhances our knowledge through interactive, hands-on experiences.
