Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

School Wellness Centers are facilities within schools that offer various services focused on promoting student well-being, encompassing physical, mental, and social aspects. They provide a safe space for students to address their needs, access resources, and connect with support services, ultimately enhancing their overall academic and personal development.

Students will explore mindfulness coping skills through designated areas in The TLC, such as Arts and Crafts, Sensory, Community Building, Garden, and Self-Love.

The Meditation Cushion Floor Pillow, Stadium Seats Cushion, and Sitwell Wobble Stool will be great alternate seating from traditional classroom chairs for our Sensory Area to help students get grounded. In addition, the sensory area will utilize the sensory materials listed: LEGO, Playdough accessories, and Kinetic Sand. In the Art area, we will utilize the materials: 500 Pcs of Paper and Beads. Art has proven to benefit mental health by providing a creative outlet for expressing emotions, reducing stress, and promoting self-discovery. Engaging in artistic activities, such as painting, drawing, or writing, can help individuals process difficult experiences, boost self-esteem, and foster social connections. The remaining materials will go to our community building area: Mirror, Weighted Blanket, and Knit Blanket Throw. The weighted blanket offers several benefits, primarily due to deep pressure stimulation, which can help regulate the nervous system, promote relaxation, and improve sleep. They may also help manage anxiety and stress by mimicking the feeling of a comforting hug.

Our goal is to teach teens stress-reduction strategies so they can have an overall positive outlook on life and their well-being.
