Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our school are a diverse and unique population. Housed within our school are three separate educational academies, each catering to a different population of students.

With a population of roughly 1200 students, the students represent a broad range of both academic needs and cultural diversity.

Some of our students are new to the United States and are first beginning to learn English, while others are reading at high school level and beyond. We also have almost every major region of the globe represented in our student body.

The one academy focuses on creating meaningful learning experiences for students who live in close proximity to the school, the second is an academic magnet school that requires students to maintain a certain grade point average and pass an exam to gain admission, and the third requires that students live near the school, and maintain a high grade point average.

My Project

My students will work with myself, the art teachers, and the math and science teachers to understand how two dimensional drawings translate into 3D objects, and how 3D shapes can be broken down into two dimensions. This will be especially helpful for the visual and tactile learners in my classes who need to see things and touch things to develop full understanding.

My students fall on the wrong side of the digital divide.

Many don't have access to technology, and those who do often times don't know how to use what they have. I'm hoping to level the playing field. I hope that allowing them to create objects with a 3D printer will help them to better understand the power of computers and technology.
