This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine for a moment coming into a school not understanding what is going on. My students are from low income families that live in an intercity community. English is not the first language spoken at home.

I have the most energetic, creative, enthusiastic, inspiring and charismatic students.

They not only have to learn a new language but a new way of life. Many of them enter into this country never having gone to school before. They all aspire to be someone great.

My Project

Students will be using the Bailey Mini-Might Durable Portable Small Slab Roller to create three dimensional clay sculptures. Students will create clay castles, masks, plates, birds and containers from the slabs. This process will allow students a chance to experience an ancient practice of hand building. Students will see their own ideas come to life and possibly be a functional piece of work.

This project would significantly help my students' understanding of the hand building with clay.

They would see the process of hand building and connect to a final product. This slab roller will cut our time in half immensely.Students will be able to start a project and work from the ground up with clay and not have to wait for another day. They will get an opportunity to connect with other cultures through the hand building experience.
