The Therapeutic Art of Origami: Benefits for Mental Health

Help me give my students access to the mental health benefits of Origami.

My Project

Origami offers significant mental health benefits that teens are desperately in need of.

One of the most notable qualities of origami is its ability to improve concentration and mindfulness.

During the folding process, total focus is required on every fold and crease, which helps ward off intrusive thoughts and cope with stressful situations. Mindfulness is a therapeutic technique that has been associated with a decrease in anxiety and depression, and origami can be an effective way to achieve this attention.

Folding paper neatly and methodically can have a calming effect. This repetitive process induces a feeling of relaxation, lowers blood pressure, and releases endorphins, which can reduce stress and anxiety. It is like an active meditation exercise in which the mind is freed from worries and tensions.

The Japanese art of origami is not only an exercise in patience, but also creativity. As practitioners gain experience, they often begin to create their own designs and variants. This creative process can be especially valuable for those seeking to express their emotions and thoughts in a non-verbal way. Origami is an artistic medium that provides a creative outlet and can help release repressed emotions.

Origami involves following complex patterns and solving geometric problems to create shapes. This focus on problem solving can transfer to everyday life, helping people address challenges more efficiently and effectively. These origami kits and paper will help my students develop their problem-solving skills and this can increase their confidence and control over life.
