My Students
My students are growing up in the 21st Century-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) ERA and paper/ pencil activities limit our ability to get outside of our four walls and explore the power of Technology in Mathematics. They do not see the power tablets can have in mathematics.
I teach in an urban District that services low socio-economic students.
My students are in need of some tender loving care. We provide free breakfast and lunch to all of our students .In some cases we provide toiletries and clothing. We are challenged with the task of finding resources for our growing population of at-risk students. Our families have been severely impacted by our society's move from being industrialized to being more technologically driven. This change has brought devastation to our families and has had a severe impact on the children, our students. We have a need to make STEM a focus of learning by developing STEM driven activities for our students to engage in as a unique and diverse group of learners.
My Project
Since the beginning of the school year I have been helping them develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills. In addition, I make every effort to make sure that they are encouraged and given the opportunity to participate in STEM. It is my responsibility to help them develop their 21st Century STEM skills through collaborative groups and curriculum requirements. They are a part of the 21st Century digital generation and they need to develop their skills. These tablets will allow them to engage in creating their own instructional mathematical videos and other multimedia presentations. In addition, they will take a journey into coding. They will also allow students to be in charge of their own learning by meeting their own individual needs through mathematical applications that will be made available to them on the tablets.
These handheld resources will bring mathematical and technological vocabulary to life.
The tablets will give my students the ability to engage in mathematical activities outside of our four walls and recognize the real-world application of mathematics and technology. They will also enhance their learning by allowing them to reinforce, practice, and create. I will be able to use blended learning as a way to meet all learning needs in such a diverse and unique group of students.
