My Project
This Table of Secrets is not anything like Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. There are no kept secrets by magical elves or kids with wands running around trying to save Hogwarts. One thing that is true between the two is magic and that is what inspired this project. The magic I speak of is the magical connection that happens when students are able to collaborate on a deeper level to understand a topic that individually may pose as an obstacle in their academic career. The magic is in the students' comfort in being able to connect with peers and understand that perhaps some students could be facing the same struggles as themselves. Even better, the magic is when students start to slowly move that obstacle out of their way with a little assistance from their friends and teacher.
My plans for this table and chairs is to utilize them for small group instruction.
Currently, my students are forced to push more chairs towards one table that only seats a group of 4. This table will allow all 6-8 of my students to sit comfortably and engage in smaller explicit and hands-on instructed lessons. In these small groups students will also be able to have more space to do more interactive activities, such as our Letter Pop Up game or Jeopardy CVC-CVCC games. I truthfully believe this classroom request will allow my students to not only have a promotional environment for learning, but one they feel like they can call their own.
