Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The supplies requested are basic school supplies every student should have when they begin the school year. Many of my students come from low-income housing and are unable to purchase the most basic school supplies which sets them at a disadvantage from the beginning of the school year. With the basic school supplies (notebooks, highlighters, Sharpies, pencils, folders), the students will have the bare minimum to be successful and can fully delve into learning.
I want my students to feel comfortable and safe without having to worry about not being prepared for school.
If this project gets funded, it will alleviate an additional burden for some of my students. An additional goal for this project is to have classroom materials such as full sets of coloring utensils (crayons, colored pencils, markers) to create an environment where my students look forward to class and engaging with the content.
Many of my students are new arrivals to the US and have literally come with the supplies on their backs and are merely surviving. Their ability for some to work full-time and still attend school is amazing. Some of my students have been through more than any of us will go through in our lifetime and continue to amaze me with their grit and determination to still receive an education.
