Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The music classroom is a space where kids have the freedom to express themselves in a safe and positive environment. Every student should have the opportunity to be in band or orchestra, however, renting or owning an instrument is more expensive than most of my students are able to afford.
My school is a Title I school where every student receives a free breakfast and lunch.
Every day is a new day to explore music and cultures through playing an instrument to folk dancing. Despite some of the language and cultural barriers between my students and myself, they are always excited to create music!
My Project
Our school is restarting a band and strings program and over 120 students have signed up to be in band or orchestra this year. Unfortunately, they are not able to maintain, let alone purchase, an instrument due to financial restraints. For this reason, I am asking that you consider helping us stock up on reeds, string, and rosin so my students do not have to worry about purchasing these items. Reeds, strings, and rosin are vital in the way woodwind and stringed instruments create sound and without these items it would be impossible to play those instruments. Unfortunately, these items are not cheap and they need to be regularly replaced.
All of my students want to have the opportunity of the lifetime and learn how to play an instrument but they can't afford it.
My students are hard workers and I want to ensure that they have every possible opportunity to express themselves through music. Assisting us in purchasing the reeds, strings, and rosin will give my students the opportunity to play an instrument without having to worry about extra fees.
