Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom is a busy language rich environment that needs the support of added technology in the classroom. We have 15 special needs students in both our morning and afternoon classes. Currently, we have two iPads for 15 students. Having more iPads would be beneficial for our students.

Our classroom is in a lower socioeconomic area of our district.

Students range in age from the very youngest at 2 years 9 months through age 5. The children in our classroom are as varied as the country in which we live. We have students with speech and language delays, cognitive delays, motor skill delays, adaptive skills needs, as well as social emotional skills needs. Giving them the opportunity to be exposed to technology and the learning games that come with technology would only help them improve their skills and become brighter stars.

My Project

The addition of the camera in the classroom is to replace the worn out camera we currently have and make it easier to use pictures with spoken and written language. The two additional iPads will give more children the opportunity to use them in the classroom daily rather than having to wait sometimes days for their turn to use what we currently have.

Our program and the students we reach need support from the community to show them they do matter and should have the same exposure to the technology that is afforded to our more affluent schools within the district.

Watching a child's mind come alive with the programs and apps available is a rewarding job and the additional supplies will ensure that light is lit and remains.
