My Students

Just as pens, pencils and notebooks are important educational tools for all students, access to a properly working computer is an important learning tool in today's technologically driven world.

I would like to introduce to you to my amazing 86 middle school students who enter the media/library lab each every day, excited to embrace the world of technology in my computer classes.

My students attend a New York City middle school and are in sixth and seventh grade. In each of my classes, I have students of varied abilities, who include students with disabilities, general education and gifted students. They all work together and help each other using the many different programs and truly enjoy using the computers. I teach Computer Applications in the school's media/library center, that has 32 computers. The computers in library/media center are also utilized by the all of the 1,050 students.

My Project

My students need 6 new computer keyboards and 6 mice to replace broken keyboards and mice. The computers in the library/media center are in constant use during the school day. Due to the constant use, many of the existing keyboards have missing keys and/or the space bar sticks, so students have a difficult time creating spaces between words or some letters do not always appear on the screen. In addition, some of the computers’ mice do not always work. When students are word processing, creating charts, working on PowerPoint presentations or researching on the web, they become upset as some keys do not work properly, and the mice do not scroll properly.

With the purchase of some new keyboards and mice, students will be able to use properly working computers.

Students will not feel frustrated when they are typing and all of the keys and computer mice will be in working order.
