Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a third grade teacher at a school in the city of Bridgeport in Connecticut. Most of my students are at or below the poverty level. They receive free breakfast and free lunch. Supplies are very limited in my classroom, most of the items we have, I purchase myself. I do this because I want my students to have the same advantages despite our lack of supplies. Currently third graders are working hard to prepare for the Connecticut Mastery Tests, this is a standardized test for all third and fourth graders in the state of Connecticut. We are asking for a listening center with some recorded books. This will aid my auditory learners with comprehension. These students have great difficulty with reading comprehension and fluency. It is very difficult for the students to comprehend the reading after listening to the text one time. With the use of a listening center these students will have the opportunity to listen to text more then one time to develop their understanding of the text. I can also tape lessons on a cassette and the students can listen to the book over and over until they understand the meaning of the text. This will also increase the student's vocabulary, by tracking the words as it's being read to them, their word recognition will improve. This item will be greatly appreciated, and would benefit the entire class. It will also be used in the years to come. thank you
