My students need base ten blocks so we can learn hands on about math. They also are very interested in STEM projects so we need the 4 laptops so they can learn to code.

My Students
"The purpose of education is to replace an empty mind with an open one." Malcolm Forbes
We are located in a poverty-stricken area in the center of Miami.
Most of our students don't have the proper technology in order to compete with other students across the county. We need updated computers so we can run newer programs, and teach the kids how to code in computer language. We need math manipulates for kids that like to learn hands on.
My students are excited about learning and they love coming to school because I try to make learning fun. No matter what they're going through at home, school is a safe haven where they can build their future, one brick at a time. They feel more in control of their destiny there. Their destiny includes getting the knowledge that they can use to change their current situation.
My school has 80% or more students born of immigrant parents. This means that the language is sometimes an issue for the students. That doesn't mean their desire to learn is limited, it just means we need resources to meet these needs.
My Project
My students will be able to see math clearly with the base ten blocks, which now I don't have enough of. The Chromebooks will put us in the same category as other schools who have the newest technology and resources. They can compete nationally in competitions and innovation challenges because they will be prepared.
By learning these skills at a young age, they can begin to visualize careers that they might be interested in for the future. This will inspire them to excel in math, science and technology subjects. There are programs out there that will help them understand every subject better. The video content is becoming increasingly higher definition. Instead of buffering every few seconds, the content will load rapidly and they can absorb more of it faster. This saves us time in the classroom and gives the teacher more ways to introduce topics related to science, because students can be viewing different things that peak their specific interests.
When these students see that they're supported by someone outside of this classroom, they'll be overwhelmed with joy.
Even when I bring in something as simple as a multiplication CD with songs on it, they feel excited because it's a new way to learn. It will change their lives because they can start opening their minds to the possibilities that the sky is not the limit for them. No matter where they were born, they can still achieve anything their little hearts can dream up.
