This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are motivated, hardworking, talented, and thirsty for knowledge.

They are dreamers who anxiously await an opportunity for college matriculation.

They are Latino and African-American, come from low income families, poor neighborhoods, and most have responsibilities outside of school that would make any one of us rethink our most difficult hardships. Yet, they still come to school because in a way it is a release from reality and a hopeful investment for their future. From South LA to College!

My Project

Recently, I have been inspired by other art teachers and I want to, like them, increase the learning and rigor in my art room while at the same time helping to flourish creativity. These sketchbooks will help me to reach these goals with my beginning art classes.

The Sketchbook Challenge will engage my art students in becoming skilled in various artistic techniques and challenge them to think outside of the box while at the same time accomplishing the difficult task of filling a sketchbook from beginning to end.

Even for professional artists completing a sketchbook is a tremendous task. My students will experiment and accomplish great works of art in various mediums such as graphite, ink, marker, watercolor, charcoal, acrylic paint, and colored pencil techniques.
