Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are some of the most resilient, energetic, and inspiring young people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Many of them come from single-parent homes, most qualify for free or reduced-price lunch at our Title I school and a large number of them have had to endure homelessness. They are also leaders and role models for the younger siblings they help care for while parents are at work.

Regardless of the struggles that they may face, my students still find a way to show up to class smiling every single day.

They are excited about their future and all of the possibilities that await them. While they are aware it will take a lot of work and dedication to get there, I have never met a more capable group of young people.

My Project

The Sister Grimm books will give my students a chance to read a complete series and develop the love of different characters through out each book. All of these chapter books have been chosen specifically with 6th grade interests in mind. Having female protagonists in books our students can choose, will break down the gender gap and give strong roles our females can relate with.

With this series, our students will be able to develop the love for reading and have 9 books to deepen their comprehension as the series progresses.

They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. It's important for our students to have strong lead protagonists that allow our students to tell themselves everything is possible. With this series, our students, will not only become stronger readers, but find a character to grow with. My goal is for students to become lifelong readers, and these books will give them a great start!
