My Students

"I dream my painting and then paint my dream." -Vincent Van Gogh In my classroom, I try to incorporate a lot of hands-on projects including art, technology, and cooperative learning. When I conduct novel studies, my students research background information and do creative projects.

My students are a diverse group of students with some students speaking English as a second language, some with learning disabilities and others that are achieving beyond grade level expectations.

More than 75% of my classroom receive free and reduced rate lunch and do not have access to technology at home.

My Project

My students will read the historical fiction novel "The Shark Attacks of 1916". They will research the setting and specific sharks they read about in the novel using the Chromebooks. They will discuss their findings in cooperative learning groups. Using the construction paper, paintbrushes, and markers, each group will capture a key moment from the novel by creating a group mural. Students will perform Reader's Theater and create props and backdrops using the art materials. Students will also create Book Commercials, News Reports, and PowerPoint presentations to perform at our Parent Night.

This project will bring art and creativity into my classroom on a regular basis.

I look forward to incorporating this into my Literature Unit and other areas of my classroom. In my school art is limited to 3 times a month, so this will help me allow my kids to use their artistic skills on a daily basis.
