My project needs needs 25 copies (a classroom set) of the book Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens and 40 workbooks for Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens so that each one of my students in the two classes will have their own.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Beggs's classroom raised $546
This project is fully funded
I am a proud Middle School teacher at a public school. I teach Speech, Language Arts and a brand new class, Study Habits. This new class is what my request revolves around.
I want to target students who are not eligible for other programs and need assistance top as the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, our statewide standardized test) and their classes.I have reviewed the students considered at-risk who passed the TAKS within a minimal margin.
I have created a class combining The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens (by the son of Stephen Covey the author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People) with critical study skills. The purpose of this course is to build a student's confidence, time management, interpersonal skills and ability to study more effectively.
Our target audience will be those students with an obvious need as identified by at-risk status. Covey?s principles of time management and interpersonal skills will prepare students for life-long success in all are as of their lives. Effective study skills will empower students and build confidence in their abilities, allowing them to experience success.
We have selected 20 7th graders and 20 8th graders to participate in this one semester course. We will have 7th graders one semester and 8th graders the other. The total will be 40 students for the pilot year, with opportunity for expansion in future years.
Our objectives for the course are the following:
-students participating in the course will show an increase in understanding and application of time management;
-students participating in the course will show an
improvement in their interpersonal skills;
-students participating in the course will show application of study skills;
-students participating in the course will show improvement in academic coursework as reflected by campus reporting;
-students participating in the course will show improvement in academic discipline as reflected by TAKS and district level assessments;
-students participating in the course will show an improvement in self-confidence, interpersonal skills, time management and study skills.
We need books and workbooks from Sean Covey and videos to facilitate this course. Currently, these students do not qualify for other funding such as Title I. The campus is committed to the program financially and has built the schedule to accommodate it.
