My Project
My students are very young. I am their first school teacher. In most cases, I am the first person outside of family members that the parents entrust their children to. My classroom consists of a very nurturing environment. The parents, children, and I feel like we are a family. All of my students have developmental disabilities, and several of them have physical disabilities as well. Most of my students are non-verbal. Due to their very young ages and disabilities, my students cannot focus on lessons for long periods. To ensure that my students can focus on a given activity, most of my lessons are taught using hands-on activities that focus on student-led exploration.
Science surrounds us and water play inspires children to discover and learn through play.
Water play is fun and engaging for my students and lays the groundwork for understanding many scientific concepts in early childhood. With a water table, water toys and water science kits my students will learn about key science concepts such as: buoyancy and density, flow and motion and chemistry in a fun, engaging, hands-on way. These materials will open up a whole new world for my students and allow them to explore and learn about Science at a very early age.
