My Project

My students are the most amazing littler risk takers I have ever met. My little six and seven year-olds love learning and trying to figure out solutions to problems. This is the first time that I have had a class full of students who love to read, learn new words, and use the reading strategies taught in class. Each and every one of my special little first grade scholars enjoy quiet time independently reading. Most importantly, they absolutely enjoy spending time with me during small group literacy instruction. Because of this love for reading, I'd like to request visual sound cards, a sentence building literacy kit, and a classroom set of reusable Elkonin boxes.

The Science of Reading stresses the importance of developing strong phonemic awareness.

These materials will help me create new phonological neuro pathways and strengthen my students ability to read. As we know reading is fundamental and the basic building block to reading is having a strong alphabetic understanding. My students will be able to use the sound cards as visual supports throughout the day. The Elkonin boxes will help my students isolate and blend sounds. As my students master their understanding of sounds and reading words, they will be able to practice using words to create sentences with the sentence building kit.
