My project needs 4 science kits on light and sound to explore where sound comes from.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Brunson's classroom raised $859
This project is fully funded
Curiosity with sounds, music, and science keeps the students minds active. As a Title One school and 735 students, grades Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth, students want to experience sound, to find out where it comes from and how its made. Sounds are all around us and students are always asking how instruments made their sounds.
With 58% of our students on free and reduced lunch, many do not get to experience music lessons and/or science lessons outside of school. Their experience comes in school with lessons to stretch their imaginations. With the arts being the last ones to receive any type of funding, I do not have the resources to teach these types of lessons to let students explore music and sound. Funding of this proposal would allow me to work with the science teachers to let students explore sound. Hands-on activities would allow the students to find out what vibrations are, to explain frequency and to explain why instruments made the sounds they do.
Sound Science kits would allow students to use their science skills to explore sound - how it's made, describe vibrations and figure out what pitch sounds at what frequency. The kits would allow students to figure out why the instruments made certain sounds and why can only reach high or low sounds. The first unit would allow students to experience vibrations. Students would keep a log of the experiments they perform and what they concluded from the experiments. To end the study on sound, students would create an instrument on their own.
Your help with this project would allow students to not only experience music but to learn how it's produced. Students are always questioning how and why. This would be the opportunity for them to explore.
