My Students
Do you remember what it was like in Health class? Reading various chapter lessons from outdated books, trying to stay awake listening to lectures, and doing worksheets that seemed endless? With your help we can change that!
My 9th grade students are energetic learners.
Even though our district is in an underprivileged area, working at this IB/Magnet school proves challenging with little resources. I have those outdated Health textbooks mentioned earlier! I ramp up my lectures with music and videos, and add different group projects. But the scientific minds of my students need more. They are thirsty for knowledge of what happens at a cellular level within our bodies.
My Project
The requested labs will be used within different Health units. Each lab will be done with a specific end in mind. That end is that the students have a deeper understanding of choices we make, how those choices affect our bodies, and some of the consequences of those choices.
The labs will definitely make a big impact on my students.
They gain valuable knowledge by reading. However, by seeing, at a chemical level, how their choices really do affect them physically, they can better understand and apply this knowledge. With our country having an obesity crisis, especially in our youth, this is a practical way to show them how their choices affect them physically and mentally. Thank you for caring enough about our country's youth to adopt this project
