My Students
Most of my students I have watched grow since kindergarten. They come to me each week for art and a chance to take a break from the rigor of the regular classroom. They have struggles and challenges in their lives, but they are able to leave them behind when they enter my art room to create. They look forward to the projects and are excited to take their work back home. It makes me smile to know that I can help them use their artistic talents to find an outlet to everyday life.
On Tuesdays and Fridays I have students come to my room during lunchtime for Art Club.
We learn techniques, talk about how things relate to other subjects and real life, and use our creativity as an outlet. My students have been coming to Art Club for up to five years.
My Project
I would like to start focusing on science in our Art Club activities. We already use clay for sculptures and other creations, but we only measure it by "abouts" and "globs." Ms. Kowalczyk created a Music and Science Club that used the Science of Music to include state standards of science in their musical exploration. This project is inspired by hers.
We will be using state standards as well as the engineering and design process as we measure clay, build stick and pipe cleaner bridges with design requirements, and explore science in the Art Room.
My students love coming to the Art Room during their lunch time. Why not add some science to it?
