Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten at P.S. 23 in Bronx, New York. Many of my students are English Language Learners and are new to this country.
My English Language Learners often seem to lack doing their homework because they do not have someone at home that speaks English and can help them. Their reading levels are also low because they are not read to at home because their parents can not read English and as a beginning Kindergarten student, the children do not know how to read by themselves.
I would like to provide the children with an alternative when it comes to reading at home. The students can borrow books on CD to listen to and read along with at home. This way they are able to read every night and it can also help the parents read along and with their child.
Your donation will help bridge yet another gap in the education of English Language Learners. By having the books on CD to listen to at home, this will give them an opportunity to read daily and help enhance not only their vocabulary but also their reading skills.
