Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom has been 100% affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. In the heart of where it all started, we are located in East Harlem, New York (Manhattan). Our schools were abruptly closed, leaving both teachers and students ill equipped with the resources to continue our educational journey to the maximum level possible.
Distance Learning is constantly evolving and my students are trying to find ways to catch up.
Most of them having disabilities and/or being English Language Learners, the journey has been a rough one. By me not being by their side, my students are greatly struggling behind their screens. I am trying to make Distance Learning the best it can possibly be by utilizing more technology.
My Project
When I found out that schools were closed, I was devastated. I quickly started researching how to create online instructional videos from the Showme app, use Google Classroom for virtual classes and messaging, and send my students daily messages and feedback through Skedula. However, there has still been something missing.
The iPad I am requesting are the last pieces of the puzzle to give my students the remote learning they deserve.
With this tool, I will be able to deliver the instruction from my home to theirs as if we were all in the same room. I will use the many apps offered on the iPad to differentiate the instruction to meet my students' needs. It will also help tremendously while video conferencing with students and creating videos to share with them. I will utilize the iPad as a virtual whiteboard to show my students the examples that will help them understand the material. The iPad will also help me edit their work to give actionable and individualized feedback to each student.
