This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students around the world have suffered due to the lack of in-person learning. As a cooking teacher, my class equips students with the tools to grow their confidence, abilities, and investment in the kitchen while helping them to investigate their personal connections to food and cooking. Students will use choice-based recipes to build their kitchen skills as well as use reflective practices throughout the learning process. Reflective practices encourage students observe what went well and find learning opportunities in what they might otherwise deem as “failures” in the kitchen. By re-orienting students toward reflective practices, we challenge notions of perfection. This course seeks to empower students to be present in the kitchen, to be curious about their own learning process, and to enjoy food in all its forms.

In order to maintain food safety, it is imperative to always have cleaning supplies.

This is why they make up a large part of the project. I have also included things like oven mits and measuring cups because we use them often, and they need to be replaced in order to best serve the students. The table will be used for demonstrations before all cooking labs, which will help prepare the students for any recipes that we will be making.
