Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I was once told be the teacher that you would want your child to have. I want to transform my classroom into a nurturing atmosphere for my students. My students face enormous obstacles just to get to my class each day and for the 8 hours they spend with me I want it to be their home for exploration.

My school provides education and many other services to a population of students that come from a low economic background.

What does that look like? Well, in my classroom I have students that have parents that work 14 hour days to make ends meet and many of my students don't see their parents on a daily basis because of overlapping schedules. I have students that are refugees from another country, escaping hunger, illness and oftentimes death. Now they have found homes in the United States but are missing the foundation of a family because some father, mothers, brothers, sisters didn't make it. Each one of my students come with his/her obstacles but they are all students who are hungry for knowledge.

My Project

The carpet will help keep my room safe by covering cords that are running across the floor. The carpet has a map of the United States geography so I will be able to incorporate the carpet into social studies. The writing stations, writing organizer and the sentence helpers will help me to create a writing center in which my students will be able to develop his/her writing. The reading centers will help to create extra activities that will help the children develop reading skills independently. The math centers will supplement my teaching by developing and enhancing my students' math skills.

When I became a teacher I took an oath that I would teach to the best of my ability.

When I became a mother I developed an understanding that not only do I need to teach these kids but I need to love and nourish them. This is what I hope that every teacher will do for my children. These donations will not only help to improve their academics but it will help for me to create an environment the fuels my students' quest for knowledge for the rest of their lives and the generations to come.
