Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at my school are wonderful, kind, and hard-working; they never let where they come from hold them back and keep them from achieving their goals! My students love to come to school everyday and oddly hate vacations. My students cherish our daily reading time and work to challenge themselves in class every day. They are very self-motivated given that most of their parents work 2 or 3 jobs and offer very little support at home. My students are going to influence the world and nothing will stand in their way!
My Project
The great thing about a book series is that the joy of reading never ends; you get to follow the character(s) you became infatuated with in book one on many more adventures.
The best way to get a middle schooler reading is to get them hooked on a series!
Right now my students are obsessed with Harry Potter. The library has run out of copies, I have lent out my personal copies, and I have borrowed some copies from the gym (yes the gym). Having a set of Harry Potter books and a variety of other series would allow my students more opportunities to read the books they are interested in.
My hope is that once students see the perks of reading a series they will branch out into other series and the fun will never end!
